Who I Am

I’m Montina Myers-Galloway—a licensed trauma therapist, leadership consultant, and speaker committed to helping Black women break free from over-responsibility and step into a life that feels like their own.

As the founder of Myers-Galloway Counseling, I lead a culturally responsive therapy and consulting practice that supports Black women healing from emotional neglect, early caregiving, and burnout. Since 2016, Myers-Galloway Counseling has supported over 300 women through more than 5,000 therapeutic healing sessions. I offer EMDR intensives, healing retreats, and real-world tools for women who have carried too much for too long.

As a speaker and consultant, I help organizations take care of their people without burning them out. I’ve worked with healthcare leaders, therapists, educators, and community changemakers—centering the mental health of those who are often overlooked while expected to hold everything together.

You may have seen my work in TEDx, PRIDE Magazine, or PsychCentral—or heard me speak about parentification (early caregiving), emotional labor, and culturally rooted trauma on podcasts and conference stages across the country

Where I’m From

I’m originally from Sumter, SC—a small Southern town that shaped how I saw the world and my role in it. I grew up learning how to carry more than my share, how to lead without being asked, and how to smile through struggle. That experience didn’t just mark me—it became the heartbeat of my work.

Today, I help Black women heal from the emotional weight of over-responsibility, unspoken grief, and the pressure to always be “the strong one.” Through therapy that creates lasting emotional shifts, retreats that prioritize restoration over performance, and intensives that bring the nervous system back to center—I guide women back to themselves. My journey from Sumter to CEO isn’t just about success. It’s about liberation. And that’s the same invitation I offer to every client and community I serve.

Why I Do This Work

I didn’t learn rest—I learned responsibility.

I’m the daughter of a single mother and a father who battled addiction and homelessness. I grew up learning how to manage chaos, hold emotions that weren’t mine, and perform strength as a way of surviving.

That early training made me capable—but it also disconnected me from my needs, my softness, and my God-given humanity.

This work was born out of my own healing and me witnessing the healing process of many other courageous Black women. And I now offer it to other women who are ready to stop just functioning and start truly living.

I know how liberating it is to put yourself first without guilt. And I’m passionate about helping other high-responsibility women get there—with tools, care, and a whole lot of truth.

How I Work: The POWER Blueprint

My work is built on the belief that healing isn’t just individual—it’s collective, cultural, and systemic. And it’s not about being fixed. It’s about coming home to yourself.

Whether I’m facilitating a retreat, guiding a therapy client, or consulting with a leadership team, I use the P.O.W.E.R. Blueprint™, my unique trauma-informed framework designed for real life:

  • People-Centered Support Networks

  • Optimized Emotional Mastery

  • Wellness for Real Lives

  • Empowerment for Purpose

  • Restorative Action Planning

It’s not just a framework—it’s a path back to the version of you that existed before the world demanded your silence, sacrifice, and strength without support.

A Little More About Me

I love stories where Black women take up space and transform communities—because that’s what I believe we were born to do, just not at our own expense. We are worthy of being seen, supported, and celebrated.
